Osprey Cottage

This 1940’s bungalow reminds us of a Key West cottage situated in the heart of historic Eustis, Florida. The Osprey cottage used to belong to my parents who were snowbirds from northeastern Ohio. They spent 25 years or so traveling between central Florida and Ohio! After my Dad passed away in Ohio, my Mom returned for two more winters but didn't wish to do it again without Dad so we purchased the home from her in 2010 or so!

My family has always loved this little home and we've treated it with loving care and needed updates! We've also focused on keeping its charm and character too during its updates! Since I didn't want to rent our family home out to tenants that might be “hard” on the house – I thought it'd be a great idea to offer others a snowbird opportunity like how my parents enjoyed! So one thing led to another and I thought it'd be a clever idea to name the house. I asked my children for ideas! Since my Dad’s first name was Richard but he went by Dick, my eldest son quickly piped up with his idea of “Dick’s Last Resort” which we all roared about…….. But we thought “that” wouldn't be politically correct for public knowledge! You can decide for yourself after you visit! Osprey Cottage or ???

While our property is located in downtown Eustis, we are fortunate to have a private compound of sorts! There is a lake situated in our backyard which offers respite from the hustle and bustle of city life and quite the array of wildlife and bird watching…… Such as Ospreys! Ahhhh – the name of The Osprey Cottage! We also own The Egret Cottage next door to the south and we live in The Heron Cottage to the north but that's a different story! Our property offers guests an opportunity to experience the “real” Florida of nature and the wildlife but still have the convenience of downtown! Our family and guests enjoy the porch swing in the evenings where you can enjoy a beverage while watching the various birds such as Eagles, Ospreys, Herons, Egrets come to feed or roost! We even see alligators quite regularly! We will have to name our oversized boat-friendly driveway Alligator Alley!

The Osprey cottage is two blocks from Lake Eustis and its scenic boardwalk that is over the lake along the downtown Eustis Ferran Park border! Eustis has monthly street parties (first Friday of every month) and monthly car shows (last Saturday which boasts bands and food vendors. There are other events that happen downtown throughout the year too. Restaurants and shops and the waterfront park/boardwalk and the street festivals make our location a great spot to walk or bike to/from downtown! If you want more hiking or swimming at some beautiful natural springs, we are located just south of the famous Ocala National Forest. If you want more theme park action like Disney or Universal, you can head south towards Orlando and find those attractions a pleasant 45 minute drive away! Then if you want some beautiful beach bumming, we are about an hour from each coast!

Ross Cottages offer some jalopy bikes to bike around Eustis and we are happy to loan you some coolers or lawn chairs for your further adventures! Please come for a visit and enjoy our little slice of paradise! You will find our cottages very well maintained, extremely clean, and thoroughly stocked so that you can easily make yourselves at home! If there is something else or more that you'd like or need, chances are we can accommodate! Please check out our photos and book with confidence.
